Social Ministry

Jesus was once asked what the two greatest commandments were.   He replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’" This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39.

Because of this, we place a high priority on helping others who are in need.  There are a variety of ways in which we show love to those who are in need through the ministry at LOTW.

  • Every Christmas we sponsor dozens of children and/or families from within our community and buy them presents so that they can have gifts to open at Christmas.
  • We have a professional counseling ministry in which people from the community can come and receive professional counseling that is based upon what they can afford and at a fraction of the cost of normal professional counseling services.
  • We hold quarterly blood drives to help support local area blood banks.
  • We have been involved in building homes for Habitat for Humanity.
  • We have a Disaster Response Team which is made up of volunteers who are willing to assemble and respond to natural disasters within a few hundred miles in order to bring relief to those who have been devastated.
  • We host special Sundays like “Compassion International” Sunday, in which we encourage our members to think about financially sponsoring a child abroad.
  • We also partner with organizations like Child Protective Services in order to promote community services such as foster parenting within our congregation.

We are always looking for other ways to make a difference in the lives of others as we know that all that we do for the “least of these” is also done for the Lord.
